History A Level

History encourages you to question interpretations, analyse evidence and evaluate influence over time. It is an academically rigorous subject that rewards curiosity, critical thinking and independent study. You will explore a broad range of historical periods, developing an understanding of how events, ideas and individuals have shaped the world. You will begin by studying AS Level content in your first year, building a strong foundation for the full A Level.

On this course you will:
– Study topics including the War of the Roses, Germany from 1918 to 1991, the rise of fascism in Italy and the causes of the Cold War
– Develop skills in analysis, interpretation and independent research
– Build clear, structured written arguments using evidence
– Engage in discussion and debate, with enrichment opportunities such as guest lectures and trips

This course can be combined with others and goes particularly well with Politics, Classics, English Literature, Sociology, and Law.
