Introduction To Professional Cookery
If you live, work and breathe food, your culinary journey could start here with this hands-on course that is all about getting stuck in and learning real cooking skills in a professional kitchen. You will train in our Taw Restaurant kitchen using state-of-the-art equipment like combi ovens, ice-cream machines, induction stoves and even a Thermomix.
On this course you will:
– Learn baking, roasting and grilling
– Develop stewing, braising and poaching techniques
– Master the essential chef skills you will need in the industry
– Cook using professional, state-of the-art kitchen equipment

Course details
Assessments
Assessments are both practical and academic, with short answer tests. Vital practical skills are practised and developed before each assessment.
Entry Requirements
You must hold four GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent (or above), including Maths and English.
Progression
You could progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery, an apprenticeship, or employment in a kitchen.
Study Programme
Every full-time student at North Devon College will have their own Study Programme which will include:
– Your academic or vocational qualification.
– Maths and English Language development – if you have not achieved GCSE grade 4 in either of these subjects.
– Work Experience – hours will vary depending on your qualification and course level.
