Creative Media and Film (Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication) University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma

If you want to make films, take powerful photographs, design bold visuals or explore games and animation, this two-year Creative Media course is for you. Through hands-on projects, you’ll develop practical skills using industry-standard equipment and creative software, explore different areas of media and discover your own creative style. As you progress, you’ll specialise in the areas that interest you most and build a strong portfolio ready for university, an apprenticeship or a career in the creative industries.

On this course you will:
– Film – Plan, shoot and edit films, developing skills in cinematography, camera operation, lighting, directing, sound recording and post-production. You may work on short narratives, music videos, documentaries, promotional content and other movingimage projects, taking ideas from initial concept through to a completed production.
– Photography – Capture and edit photography in the studio and on location, developing your understanding of cameras, lighting, composition and image editing. You will have opportunities to explore areas such as portraiture, commercial photography, documentary, conceptual and artistic photography and location work while developing your own photographic style.
– Graphic Design and Visual Communication – Design graphics, posters, branding and digital content for different audiences and creative briefs. You will develop skills in typography, layout, colour, image-making and visual communication, creating work that could include advertising, promotional media, branding and digital design.
– Games Design and Interactive Media – Develop ideas for games and interactive experiences, exploring areas such as concept development, game design, visual development and digital media production. You will consider how audiences interact with media while developing creative and technical skills relevant to games and interactive industries.
– Animation – Explore animation through practical projects focused on movement, storytelling, visual design and character. You can experiment with different animation approaches and combine animated work with film, graphics, games or other digital media.
– Sound for Media – Develop skills in recording, editing and producing audio for creative projects. This can include sound design for film, animation, games and other media productions, exploring how sound, music and audio can help create atmosphere, emotion and meaning.
– Across these pathways, you will also have opportunities to combine different disciplines. A filmmaker might incorporate animation or sound design, a photographer might combine imagery with graphic design, and a games student might work with moving image, sound or visual development. This allows you to build a varied portfolio while developing a clear creative identity.
