New North Devon College opens its doors for first open event of the year
North Devon College is inviting prospective students, parents and carers to its first Open Event of the academic year on Wednesday 7 October, from 5pm to 7.30pm at its Barnstaple campus.
It will be one of the College’s biggest Open Events to date and the first opportunity for the community to see the transformation taking place across the campus. Following more than £800,000 of investment over the summer, and now in its first full academic year as North Devon College, the event marks an exciting new chapter for further education in the region.
The change is about much more than the campus. This year brings a significantly strengthened A Level offer, designed to give students the best possible foundation for university and beyond. Students now benefit from increased teaching time, the freedom to combine any A Levels, and a new tutorial programme with tailored plans for personal development. A number of courses are now offered across both Exeter and North Devon Colleges with the same core curriculum and awarding body.
From September, high-attaining students can also join the Reach Academy, with dedicated pathways offering specialist guidance for competitive routes into Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and STEM degrees.
Visitors on 7 October will also see the results of the summer’s investment first-hand. More than 30 improvement projects have been delivered, from a refurbished sports hall, fitness and changing facilities to two new performing arts studios, a new digital suite for creative subjects and a dedicated A Level study hub.
A new Supported Study Hub gives learners access to specialist staff, while the new Extra Hub at the heart of the campus brings together extracurricular activities, academies and careers support in one place.
The Open Event is the ideal opportunity to experience all of this in person. Families can tour the facilities, meet teaching staff, explore the full range of A Levels, T Levels, vocational courses and apprenticeships, and get practical advice on applications, finance and student support.
Talks will run throughout the evening, including an introduction to the College, sessions on T Levels and apprenticeships, and guidance for parents and carers on supporting their child through their next step.
Jade Otty, Group Deputy CEO of Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group, said: “This is an exciting moment for North Devon College. We want every student and family who visits to see the ambition we have for their College, and the Open Event is the perfect opportunity to experience that first-hand.
“The improvements delivered this summer are just the beginning, and there is much more still to come.”
Prospective students and their families can register for the Open Event on 7 Oct from 5pm – 7.30pm at ndc.ac.uk
